WEEE Information for Customers and Recyclers

Regulations concerning the management of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) in the Wallonia Region are implemented by an amendment to the Producer Responsibility Decree and came into force on April 18th 2005. Under the Decree, Kramer Electronics is required to finance the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. The old equipment that your new purchase from Kramer Electronics replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.

Under the Decree, Kramer Electronics is also required to finance the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Kramer Electronics after August 13th 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.

Kramer Electronics products are very competitively priced. Any new increase in operating costs for manufacturers such as Kramer Electronics is normally reflected in a price increase in the product. However, instead of increasing the prices of our products Kramer Electronics has decided to share these new environmental costs directly with our customers. We believe in being transparent with you on any new environmental costs that our products need to address.

Our approach to sharing these new environmental costs are:

• You pay for transportation of your WEEE to Kramer Electronics’s appointed recycler in Belgium.

• Kramer Electronics pays for the costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the WEEE to meet the targets set by the Decree

• Kramer Electronics pays for the costs of data management and reporting to the Direction Générale des Ressources Naturelles et de l'Environnement (DGRNE) of the Wallonia Region to demonstrate compliance with all administrative requirements of the Decree

Kramer Electronics has established a recycling contract with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover any costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the equipment on arrival at the EARN facility in Belgium. All New WEEE that arises from the purchase of Kramer Electronics products is classed as non-hazardous waste*.

It is your responsibility to arrange and pay for costs of collection and transportation to EARN. In order to meet the legal requirements for waste disposal, you should use one of the following carriers (which will hold a valid Waste Carriers License prior to producer take-back obligations beginning in Belgium ):

This label meets the requirements of an identification form that must accompany the transport of waste in Belgium.

Under Article 12 of the WEEE Directive and the implementing Producer Responsibility Decree, Kramer Electronics must provide annual information of the quantities and categories of electrical and electronic equipment put on the market, reused, recycled and recovered within the Wallonia Region

The first WEEE recycling report will cover the period August 2005 to July 2006 for each region. EARN will prepare the recycling data report for Kramer Electronics. Information in the EARN recycling data report will be summarised on the Kramer Electronics website when it becomes available.
